The striations run through the surface like geological strata, each band a different shade of blue. Deep cobalt at the base gives way to paler tones higher up, where the ice has fractured into crystalline facets. The light was diffused and flat, which is exactly what you want for this kind of detail work. Direct sun would have blown out the highlights
